What the source explains
On 22 September 2026, the European Commission published a questions-and-answers document on the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive. It discusses environmental claims, sustainability labels and information about durability and repairability in communications to consumers.
The document distinguishes broad environmental descriptions from specific claims whose meaning is clearly explained alongside them. It stresses that even a specific claim needs supporting evidence, and that imagery and the overall presentation can influence what consumers understand.
The Q&A presents preliminary views of Commission services. It is not a formal Commission position or a legally binding interpretation. This article summarises selected points; it is not a compliance assessment.
Our perspective
For a sleeping platform, useful information should help people understand what a statement refers to: the whole product, a removable component or a proposed recovery route. A design intention and a demonstrated outcome answer different questions. We believe keeping that distinction visible makes product development easier to follow.
Varde Sleep is developing a sleeping platform around exceptional comfort, innovation and circular design. ESPR remains a development reference, not a certification. Durability, reuse and material recovery outcomes still require testing and documentation; the product is not yet for sale.
