In its July 2025 announcement, the European Commission identified mattresses among the priority products in the 2025–2030 ecodesign working plan. Furniture and textiles were also included.
The plan sets a direction for developing product requirements. Inclusion in the plan should not be read as a product certification or as proof that a particular sleeping platform meets future requirements.
Why it matters for sleeping platforms
For Varde Sleep, this is a reason to consider care, component separation and material recovery alongside comfort from the beginning. These are development priorities, with testing still ahead.
The useful question is practical: how can a sleeping platform remain comfortable and useful, and what happens to its components after use? We will follow product-specific developments as they are published.
